The Springfield Metro area is a sports town with state-of-the-art facilities and dozens of sports events year-round including AA baseball, amateur, collegiate, and high school events. Proximity to the largest cities in Missouri—Kansas City and St. Louis, provides opportunity to attend professional games and events like Kansas City Chiefs football, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and NASCAR.

Springfield offers 120 sports venues which include flat fields, diamonds, pools, golf courses, indoor universities and colleges, indoor multipurpose, tennis and pickleball courts, racquetball and handball courts, outdoor track, ice rinks, BMX and skateboard parks, beach volleyball, outdoor biking trails and greenways, bowling and billiards, esports, and secondary school sports facilities. The recent addition of Betty & Bobby Allison Sports Town brings an indoor/outdoor venue spanning 82 acres. This premier sports complex offers 12 outdoor professionally maintained sports fields, including 4 turf fields that allow for all weather play, and 94,000sq.ft. indoor facility with four high school regulation basketball courts that can be converted to 8 volleyball courts as well as two indoor soccer fields.

Another sports venue is the Betty and Bobby Allison Miracle League Ball Field | 📍 which provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to be part of a team and play Miracle League Ball. The facility is a custom-designed barrier-free ball field where players of all ages and abilities can hit, run, catch and play ball. The field is specially equipped with a cushioned synthetic surface that allows players utilizing wheelchairs and walkers to move unrestricted and without fear of injury.

Springfield is also home to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame | 📍 with 32,000sq.ft. showcasing over 4,000 items of sports memorabilia, displays and interactive exhibits that include racing in a NASCAR simulator, stepping into the batters box against a Major League Baseball pitcher, throw football passes, and more. The Hall of Fame celebrates the accomplishments made by athletes of our past, while inspiring future athletes to succeed. Adjacent to the Hall of Fame is the Legends Walk of Fame featuring busts and statues of notable Show Me State sports figures honored with the yearly Legends Award.

    Softball has been played in Springfield since the 1930s. The Association includes divisions for men and women’s slow and fastpitch, along with youth fastpitch. To date, Springfield has hosted more than 35 national championships.

Organized Sports

  • Collegiate Sports — Many sports fans enjoy college sports including the Missouri State University’s Bears at Great Southern Bank Arena and Hammons Student Center, the Evangel Valor, Drury Panthers, and other collegiate teams. Area universities and colleges bring hometown pride to Springfield with a number of Division I teams in sports like basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, cross country, golf and more. For those less interested in the usual sports scene, Drury University’s Panthers are also involved in non-NCAA sports like bass fishing, bowling, esports and shotgun sports. Private Christian college Evangel University’s Valor fields a variety of NAIA teams including tennis, baseball and football.
