Battlefield

Battlefield is located around 2 miles south of Springfield’s Hwy 60 and home to 6,000 residents and Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. Named for its proximity to the 1861 Battle of Wilson’s Creek—one of the first large battles of the American Civil War—several Battlefield streets, parks, and other landmarks are named for events and people related to the battle such as Nathaniel Lyon Street, named for Union General Nathaniel Lyons, the first Union general to die in the civil war. Children and adults can learn about the second major battle of the Civil War by touring the grounds and stopping by the visitor’s center. A section of the historic Trail of Tears is also nearby.
